Mission: The GSSS's mission is to promote and support excellence in graduate education and research. The Graduate School develops common goals with departments and programs, sets common standards and encourages best practices for implementation across disciplines. GSSS values excellence, cooperation, integrity, efficiency, and innovation while fulfilling its mission.

Vision: The GSSS encourages trans-national disciplines to promote cooperation or interdisciplinary cooperation. The Graduate School aims to create a new synergy in research and teaching through a wide range of interdisciplinary programs on specific topics of field work and number.

Thanks to its links to national and international higher education institutions, GSSS aims to promote a creative environment for research and teaching as well as social impacts. Faculty and student exchanges, joint degree programs, OYP, joint conferences, and workshops facilitate interaction with national and international partners. This year, the SBA launched a Graduate Research Workshop open to all undergraduate students in Turkey in the field of Social Sciences. The workshop aims to conduct a discussion about ongoing research by Ph.D. students and to create a network among them.

History

Graduate School of Social Sciences was established in 1982. Assist. Prof. Yahya S. Tezel was appointed as the first Director of the Graduate School which started its activities at the A Building of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. In the first Graduate School Board Meeting held on October 28, 1982, Prof. Teo Grünberg, Assoc. Prof. Sübidey Togan and Assist. Prof. Barbaros Günçer were elected as Board Members. On this date, master's degree programs in nine fields (Economics, Business Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Educational Sciences, English Language Teaching, Political and Administrative Sciences, Physical Education and Sports, Philosophy, History of Logic and Science) as well as a PhD degree program in one field (Philosophy) were introduced. Since its foundation, the Graduate School has increased the number and types of its graduate programs in line with the developments in Turkey as well as the world. As of the year 2019, the Graduate School runs 42 disciplinary graduate programs in total under 13 different departments; out of which 18 are thesis master's programs, 4 are non-thesis master's programs, 5 are secondary education non-thesis master's programs and 15 are PhD programs. The Graduate School also runs, as of the year 2019, 26 interdisciplinary graduate programs in total under 13 different departments; out of which 9 are thesis master's programs, another 11 are non-thesis master's programs, 2 are secondary education non-thesis master's programs and 4 are PhD programs. As of the Academic Year 2016-2017 Fall Semester, a total number of 2483 students are enrolled at all the graduate programs run by the Graduate School of Social Sciences; out of which 229 are enrolled at non-thesis master's programs, 1243 are enrolled at thesis master's programs, 968 are enrolled at PhD on master's degree programs and 43 are enrolled at PhD on bachelor's degree programs. From 1982 to 2017, the Graduate School has graduated a total number of 6513 students; 5554 in master's degree programs and 959 in PhD programs.
